John Greene

Actor, singer and director John Greene has been on Augusta's stages for many years, starting with the children's chorus in a performance of Carmina Burana with the Augusta Choral Society at the age of six. He later appeared with the Choral Society in several performances as Kaspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors.

A charter member of the board of directors of The Augusta Opera Association, he was involved in the casting of the first opera, La Boheme. He also appeared in the opera chorus in many of their productions. He has been the tenor soloist with the Aiken Choral Society in performances of Mozart's Requiem, Bach's Wachet Auf, and Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle which was recorded during a performance at Spoleto Charleston.

He has appeared in concert at the Evenings at the Appleby series and in many venues across the state. He has also sung as guest soloist with many church choirs in the area. John's association with The Augusta Players goes back to 1965 when he appeared as Winthrop Paroo in The Music Man with the late Richard Kavanaugh. He has appeared in plays and musical comedies, most notably as Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird, for which he won a Best Actor Auggie, Max in The Sound of Music, Herbie in GYPSY! all with the Players. He has also appeared in leading roles with the Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre and at Augusta College/Augusta State University. Twice Youth Theatre Director for The Augusta Players, John formed his own company in 2001, The Young Artists Repertory Theatre Company (YART). He has directed such shows as The Wizard of Oz, Annie, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, The Diary of Anne Frank, Bad Seed and others. John has recently begun the Young Artists Repertory Theatre (YART), an acting school for serious young actors.
